The future of energy with green hydrogen
Proof that pure hydrogen operation is no longer a pipe dream, even at industrial scale, can be seen at the INNIO pilot plant at the HanseWerk Natur site in Hamburg-Othmarschen. This is the first large gas engine that can run on 100% natural gas, as well as on variable hydrogen-natural gas mixtures up to 100% hydrogen. The converted combined heat and power plant (CHP) reliably supplies 30 residential buildings, a sports center, a daycare center for children, and the Othmarschen Park recreational center with 13,000 megawatt hours of local heating per year. The electricity generated “fills up” the electric cars at charging stations in the Othmarschen multi-story parking lot and also is fed into the local power grid.
